By monitoring the body’s most basic functions, an individual can avoid, detect, and monitor medical conditions. Knowing how to measure one’s vital signs is vital for all health practitioners.
The main vital signs are:
- Body temperature
You can measure one’s body temperature orally, rectally, axillary, by ear, or by the skin. - Pulse rate
Besides using a sphygmomanometer against one’s wrist or back, you can check the pulse by pressing two fingers at the wrist, inside of the elbow, side of the neck. - Respiration rate
The normal respiration rate for an adult is 12 to 16 breaths per minute. - Blood pressure
Although this is not exactly considered a vital sign, it is often measured along with the others. This can be measured using an aneroid monitor or digital monitor.
